Homegrown Grace

Some days just feel….heavy.

You wake up with the best intentions, but before you know it, everything seems to be going wrong. The house is messy, the to-do list keeps growing, the kids need you, the animals need you, all before you have to go to your 9-5 job. When you get home you start all over, the house is messy, the to-do list has gotten longer, the kids need you, the animals need you, supper still has to be cooked, but one of the kids has a practice, then you get home for supper and bedtime, all while still trying not to lose your mind, and your heart feels tired.

I’ve learned that those are often the days I need God the most.

It’s easy to praise him when life feels peaceful. It’s much harder when frustration, worry or exhaustion starts creeping in. But I’ve found that God doesn’t ask us to have it all together before we come to him. He simply asks us to come.

One of my favorite reminders is found in Matthew 11:28:

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Not “Come to me when you’ve fixed everything”.

Not “Come to me when you’ve stopped crying”.

Just come.

He wants us when we are broken hearted, because sometimes leaning on God doesn’t look like having all the answers. Sometimes it looks like whispering a simple prayer while folding laundry, sitting quietly with a cup of coffee before the house wakes up, or taking a deep breath and reminding yourself that God is still in control even when life feels overwhelming.

I’ve realized that God’s grace often shows up in the ordinary moments. A child’s hug. A beautiful sunset. A kind word from a friend. The quiet peace that follows a heartfelt prayer.

The hard days will come. We all have them.

But we don’t have to carry them alone.

If today has been one of those days for you, I hope you’ll remember this:

God sees you.

He knows your heart.

He understands your struggles.

And he is walking beside you every step of the way.

Take a deep breath, hand your worries to Him, and trust the tomorrow is a new day filled with fresh mercies.

“Because of the Lord’s faithful love we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning.” Lamentations 3:22-23
